Six generations of making Valpolicella -

CA' DEL MONTE is named after the area that surrounds the village of Negrar, north of Verona, in the heart of Valpolicella. It is easy to reach the estate of Ca’ del Monte through the panoramic, narrow road that climbs the hills after San Peretto. The original building on the property is a 17th-century monastery that has been expanded over the years.

The winery is enthusiastically directed by the dynamic and entertaining brothers, Umberto and Giuseppe Zanconte, and has been cared for and owned by the family for generations. The farm comprises approximately 50 acres of vineyards situated on the sun-drenched southwest hills. The perfectly positioned vineyard is planted with the typical red grapes of Valpolicella: Corvina, Rondinella, and Molinara, as well as other native varietals, from which great Valpolicella and outstanding Amarone originate.  Authentic and natural wines that are classically true to traditions and the terroir.

  • Valpolicella Classico DOC

    (denominazione di origine controllata)

It is produced in the Veneto region, specifically in the Verona territory, in a very small area that comprises 5 of the 19 towns of the Valpolicella. The DOC denomination was given to it in 1968 with a specific decree of the President of the Italian Republic.

The cultivation territory of the vineyards used for this exceptional red wine is a small area on the northwest side of Verona, situated in an area with high hills just before the Verona Pre-Alps. This zone is full of little and very little brooks all around this valley until they reach the big Adige river, which characterizes this territory.

  • Understanding the Valpolicella Classico DOC

Produced from various vineyard grapes that must originate solely from the same geographic region and be blended according to precise percentages.

    THE GRAPE MAKE-UP:

    Molinara 5-25%
Molinara is a grape that is prunish in color, shape, and aspect. It produces a rosé-colored wine, similar to the Cerasuolo d’Abruzzo, but more delicate, with a low body, and is mainly used for blending with other vineyards.

    Corvina (Cruina or Corvina) 40-70%
Corvina has a deep blue-violet color, is resistant to winter temperatures, and produces an intense ruby red wine, rich in flavors and aromas that recall the characteristics of the high hills from which it originates. It is structurally higher in alcohol.

    Rondinella 20-40%
Rondinella has a blue-violet color, and it is bright and firm to the touch. When produced as a single-varietal, it yields an intense ruby red color, with relatively low alcohol and minimal tannins, and a light, gentle scent that is both subtle and intense.

  • Valpolicella additional varietals that can be used:

Rossignola, Negrara, Trentina, Barbera, and Sangiovese,
are allowed with a single or combined maximum of 5%.
