The story of Tenute Orestiadi winery has its roots in a relatively recent incident of destruction and reconstruction. On the night of January 14th to 15th, 1968, a devastating earthquake struck parts of Belice's valley, including Gibellina, Salaparuta, Poggioreale, Partanna, Santa Ninfa, Salemi, Santa Margherita di Belice, Montevago, and Sambuca di Sicilia. From that same land, where so much was taken away, a group of young grape growers decided to start over, embarking on a path of evolution. In 1998, a social and economic redemption was achieved through the founding of Tenute Orestiadi winery, whose headquarters are located in the heart of the Belize Valley, between the communes of Gibellina and Santa Ninfa.

Nowadays, the' cooperative is one of the largest producers on the Island, with 2,335 members and around 10,000 hectares of vineyards located in the districts of Trapani, Agrigento, and Palermo. On average, each member has about 4 hectares of land. Focused on quality and affordability, the co-op has eight cellars and produces more bottles than we would like to count. While extensive facilities like this are not our usual bag, we believe in small farmers, and co-ops like this help those farmers feed their families and work honestly. Sicily is undergoing significant changes in many ways. The children of farmers are being educated to become winemakers. A deeper understanding of working from the fields on up is spreading. The wines of Sicily are continually improving, not just in the trendy areas gaining recognition from the press. At the co-op, all growers are either organic or transitioning to organic certification; collectively, they are committed to the changes on the island of Sicily.
