Lean and clean Cortese- Gavi’s hidden jewel.

Diego Carrea inherited the family farm from his father at the turn of the century, upon his father’s passing, a moment that shaped Diego's future. At that time, Diego was pursuing a different career in IT, one that was far removed from the cherished world of wine in which he had been raised. Life is full of unexpected changes, and often you are left to make choices that can alter your path. With 7 hectares of predominantly old-vine Cortese vineyards located in an area of Gavi that connoisseurs widely regard as the true jewel of Gavi, the decision for Diego became quite clear.

Working with the cherished memory of his father, in honor of his family, and on the fertile land of his ancestors—what more could one genuinely desire? Making organic wine amidst the stunning hills of Piedmont, with the invigorating influences of fantastic sea and mountain air combined with soil steeped in rich history, is the world he now inhabits.

Here, he produces two remarkable wines from one exceptional grape, all cultivated on a single plot of land in an organic manner that pays homage to the soil and the grapes. This sincerity is evident in every bottle, offering a fragrant and fruity white wine that is both soft and elegant, truly a Gavi worth singing about. The soils he nurtures are a harmonious blend of limestone and clay, with distinctive “terra Rossa,” or iron-rich red clay veins running through them. Harvest is conducted meticulously by hand, fermentation is carried out with Indigenous yeasts, and he uses only minimal sulfites during winemaking. His wines reflect his authentic character—straightforward and precise, resonating with the essence of who he is.

Grown from vines dating back to 1964, this bottling is the magnum opus of Molinetto. Cortese from dense calcareous clay soils, lending itself to a hearty mineral focus in these wines.

The clarity and focus of Molinetto’s Cortese radiate through a soft layer of complexity added to the wine from a third of the production spending six months in French oak barrel while the rest ages in stainless steel. A period of skin maceration adds another layer to this contemplative, lovely wine.

Perfect for oysters, risotto, and even truffled dishes.
